Congratulations Justice Shaw!

Posted May 24th, 2017

Congratulations to Justice Lucille Shaw on her recent appointment as Judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Brampton. Lucille served on the Board of YWCA Sudbury and as Past President of the Board of Directors for YWCA Sudbury. Her contribution to our organization was instrumental in helping us acquire our new space, providing a safe, non-judgmental environment where women and their children can heal and grow to reach their full potential in body, mind and spirit.

Thank you Michael’s!

Girl Power with Our Crater

Posted April 19th, 2017

#GIRLPOWER there’s nothing like it! Are you a nasty woman? A girl boss? Are you a
dude who doesn’t use feminist as a dirty word? Get ready to celebrate at a party where
female empowerment is the theme of the night! With a host of local lady performers and a DJ dance party to all your favourite female artists you’ll be feeling the #GIRLPOWER for weeks! Our Crater has worked hard to assemble a line-up of talented female performers to showcase the amazing #GIRLPOWER we have right here in Sudbury!
Performers include Dominca Frometa, a Laurentian University student with a voice and
smile that can light up any room. Thea May who has been popping up around town
delighting audiences with a voice that manages to be equally smoky and playful at the
same time, covering all your favourite songs. A regular at many venues in the area
Natalie Crispo, she may be little but her voice is mighty! Finishing off the night and truly
proving girls can do it too, we have DJ BasslineJack blasting all the danceable hits from
your favourite female artists and more!
#GIRLPOWER takes place on Friday, April 28th at the Durham Social, 78 Durham
Street. Doors open at 9pm with musical performances beginning at 9:30. Tickets are
$10 in advance, $15 at the door, 20% discount at the door for ladies – you get paid
less, you should pay less! Advance tickets $7 if you are a Young Professionals
Association of Greater Sudbury member.
Proceeds from this event will go towards YWCA Sudbury’s Annual Power of Being a Girl
conference. This annual event empowers young girls in Sudbury and across Canada to
discuss the topics that affect them and prepares them for the future with workshop
presentations on healthy relationships, media and body image and communication
skills.

2017 WOD Sponsorship Opportunities

Posted January 24th, 2017

Sudbury’s major fundraising event is our annual Women of Distinction Awards Gala. Proceeds from this event will help support the work and programs of the YWCA Sudbury, especially our new conference initiative, “The Power of Being a Girl”. Many schools would like us to offer this program to their students.
You can help make this happen through your sponsorship of the Women of Distinction Awards Gala or by purchasing an advertisement in the Souvenir Booklet.
YWCA Sudbury works with women in such programs as Genevra House, a safe, emergency shelter for women who have experienced spousal violence and their children; and YWCA Brookwood Apartments, a not-for-profit housing complex for women leaving abusive relationships.
YWCA Sudbury, a registered charity and volunteer women’s organization, is part of the world-wide YWCA movement, dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls. We believe that every person has the right to live in dignity, free from exploitation. With special emphasis on women, we work to empower all individuals to reach their full potential in body, mind, and spirit.
